Steal an Egg Guide: How to Play, First Hour & Base Defence

Updated 2026-09-02 · Roblox Steal An Egg

Steal an Egg has one loop: find a nest, grab the egg while the guardian sleeps, run it back to the pen at your base, hatch it, and let the pet pay cash per second. Cash buys a better treadmill, the treadmill gives speed, and speed unlocks the next zone. Other players can take eggs from you, so defending your base is part of the game.

Quick answers first:

  • What do you do first? Claim the free 10,000 speed gift (like, favourite, join the community), then steal Forest eggs. That gift alone covers Lake (900 speed) and Desert (10,000).
  • How long should you wait before hatching? No source documents a hatch timer, so the "8 hour egg" question is not documented yet. See the hatching section below.
  • Why do you get caught more with bigger eggs? Bigger eggs are heavier and slow you down. Guardians catch players who only just meet the zone speed requirement.
  • How do you drop an egg? No source documents a drop control. Community-reported, unconfirmed.

The core loop

StepWhat happensWhere to read more
1. Find a nestEach zone has its own egg pool; nests reset every 5 minutesSpawn times
2. Steal the eggGuardians sleep next to their nests; grab and runAll eggs
3. Dodge the guardianCarrying an egg lowers your speed; larger eggs slow you moreZones
4. Reach your penEggs hatch in the pen at your basethis page
5. HatchPet rolls a size (weight in kg) and possibly a colour mutationMutations
6. EarnEach pet pays cash per second; income stacks across petsPets
7. TrainSpend cash on pens, treadmills and trails for speedMachines
8. Next zoneHigher speed unlocks the next zone and rarer eggsSpeed

Two rules from the Eggs page save wasted runs:

  • Colour does not matter. It only changes how the egg and pet look. Judge an egg by its shape (species) and size.
  • Size matters twice. A larger egg gives a higher value multiplier, but it is heavier, so you run slower while carrying it.

Income is Base Income × Colour Multiplier × Size Multiplier. Fandom marks the Silver, Golden and Rainbow multipliers as Unconfirmed.

First hour plan by zone

Forest has no speed requirement. The free gift jumps you past Lake, so the real first hour is Forest, Lake and the start of Desert.

OrderZoneSpeed neededGuardianWhat to stealBase cash/s (Eurogamer)
1ForestNoneChickenAny egg; Fox ($180) and Bear ($240) are the Epic targetsChicken $1 to Brr Brr Patapim $1.8k
2Lake900SwanTurtle ($60), Swan ($320), Axolotl ($2.8k)Frog $3 to Leviathan $220k
3Desert10,000ScorpionCamel ($75), Snake ($3.6k), Scorpion ($18.5k)Jerboa $6 to Royal Sphinx $280k
4Jungle~40,000TigerGorilla ($4.8k), Tiger ($28k)Chimpanzee $90 to King Snake $3.5m

Order of operations:

  1. Do the three free gift steps for 10,000 speed. There are no working codes.
  2. Steal and hatch two or three Forest eggs. Even a $1/s Chicken is income while you run.
  3. Log every new pet in the Index. Eurogamer lists an Index reward per pet: +420 speed and $100 for a Chicken, +1k speed and $180k for Brr Brr Patapim.
  4. Move to Lake, then Desert. Fandom says Desert is the first zone where higher-rarity eggs start to appear.
  5. Put cash into the treadmill; speed comes from training on it.

Jungle's requirement is disputed between sources, so treat ~40,000 as a floor. All 11 zones, up to Titan Temple at 7 billion speed, are on the zones page; the best earners are on the tier list.

How hatching works

What the sources confirm:

  • Eggs hatch in the pen at your base, not in the field.
  • At hatch the pet rolls two independent traits: a size (shown as weight in kg on the pet card) and a colour mutation. The same species can hatch as a Golden Giant or a plain Huge.
  • Size rolls are easier to get than rare colour rolls, so weight is the bigger income lever.

Not documented yet: whether eggs have a hatch timer, how long it runs, whether it counts down offline, and whether an "8 hour egg" exists as a mechanic. No page in the Fandom wiki, Eurogamer or Destructoid mentions one, so treat any specific hatch time as community-reported and unconfirmed. The same applies to fusing: the sources used here do not describe a fuse machine; the machines page covers what is known.

Base defence: bear traps and the safe zone

Destructoid's summary is blunt: while you are stealing eggs, other players are stealing yours. The one documented defence item is the bear trap, from the Fandom Boosts page.

Bear trap factValue
When you can place oneOnly while holding an egg
Maximum on the map3 per player
Effect on whoever steps inStuck for 7 seconds
Getting a trap backOwner picks it up, or it returns after something triggers it
SupplyInfinite; no known way to hold more than 3 at once
Safe zoneTraps cannot be placed inside it

The safe zone blocks trap placement; its boundaries and whether guardians or other players can enter it are not documented yet. The Cosmic Skeleton Boss page also mentions a bat that knocks out other players near a contested egg, the only offensive tool the wiki records. Whether eggs can be moved between accounts is covered on the trading page.

Common questions

Why did the guardian catch me after I unlocked the zone? Entry speed is not enough to return with a big egg. The Titan Temple and Cherry Blossom pages both warn that the guardian catches players who only barely meet the requirement. Train past the number, then steal small eggs first.

Which eggs are worth the risk early? Epic and above: Fox, Bear and Brr Brr Patapim in Forest; Trulimero Trulicina, Swan and Axolotl in Lake.

Are event eggs in normal nests? No. Brainrot Eggs and other event eggs come only from the Store or events like Admin Abuse. The Monster Egg is Robux-only. The Cherry Blossom event adds the Sakura Incubator, unlocked with a Crane, at 2.5 billion speed.

What are the secret announcements? The Fandom page for the Cosmic Skeleton Boss says a server announcement appears at the top of the screen when that egg spawns. Whether every secret egg triggers one is community-reported, unconfirmed. See secret and divine eggs and eternal eggs.

Is speed permanent? No source describes speed expiring. The speed page lists every way to gain it; the updates page covers the patches that added Cherry Blossom and Titan Temple.
