Speed is the stat that gates every zone in Steal An Egg. Forest needs none, Lake needs 900, Desert 10,000, and the numbers climb to 700 million for Cosmic, 2.5 billion for Cherry Blossom and 7 billion for Titan Temple. You gain speed from the Treadmill, Trails, the one-time 10,000 speed Free Gift, Index rewards for each pet, and Robux purchases.
Quick answers to the most common questions:
- How much speed to outrun the Kitsune / Cherry Blossom guardian? The zone unlocks at 2.5B, but the wiki warns the guardian can catch players who only barely meet the requirement. Train well past it, because carrying an egg slows you down.
- Is speed permanent? Nothing in the sources describes speed tiers expiring or resetting. Speed is treated as a stat you build up over time.
- Is 2x speed worth it? Fandom only confirms that speed can be bought with Robux. The price and exact multiplier are not documented yet, so see the trade-off section below.

How to get speed fast
Fandom's Speed page lists three ways to gain speed; the Fandom Eggs and Pets pages add Trails, and Eurogamer's pet tables add Index rewards.

For a new player, the 10,000 speed Free Gift alone covers Lake (900) and Desert (10,000) and costs nothing. There are no redeemable codes for speed, as explained on the codes page.
After that, the loop is: hatch pets to earn cash per second, spend it on a better Treadmill and Trails, then train until the next zone opens. Check the pets list for the best earners in your current zone.
Index reward speed by zone
Eurogamer's pet tables list an Index reward for every pet, paid as both speed and cash. The speed portion grows sharply with each zone, so filling in the Index is a real speed source.

How much speed do you need to outrun the Kitsune?
Searches for "outrun the Kitsune" usually mean the Cherry Blossom guardian. Fandom is inconsistent here: the Zones table names Oni Tiger, the Cherry Blossom page names a Nine-Tailed Fox, and the wiki says the guardian is unconfirmed. Kitsune is also the zone's Divine pet. Whichever name is right, the rules are the same:
- The zone unlocks at 2.5 billion speed.
- The Cherry Blossom page says the guardian "can catch players who only barely meet the zone requirement".
- Carrying an egg reduces your effective movement speed, and bigger eggs are heavier and slower.
- The Cherry Blossom and Titan Temple pages, and the Zones overview, all advise training well beyond the minimum before trying heavier eggs.
The wiki does not publish an exact safe number for any guardian. For the Cosmic Skeleton Boss egg it recommends "MORE THAN" 700M: the entry requirement is a floor, not a target. The same logic applies to Prehistoric, where the ~17–18M entry value is itself disputed; reports that the T-Rex catches players sitting right at the entry point are community-reported, unconfirmed.

Is speed tier permanent?
None of the source pages describe speed tiers, decay, or resets. Speed is described as a stat you build by running on treadmills, claiming the Free Gift, collecting Index rewards, and buying with Robux. If the game has a temporary boost or a tier that expires, it is not documented yet. Treat claims about speed resetting as community-reported and unconfirmed.
Is 2x speed worth it?
Fandom confirms that speed can be bought with Robux but gives no price and does not document a "2x speed" product, so any multiplier or cost quoted elsewhere is unconfirmed. Weigh it against what free sources give you:
- Early game: the 10,000 speed Free Gift and treadmill upgrades cover the first three zones, so paid speed has little to do.
- Mid game: each zone needs several times the speed of the last (Jungle ~40k, Snow ~170k, Volcano ~700k), so a flat purchase is outpaced quickly by treadmill upgrades.
- Late game: Cosmic (700M), Cherry Blossom (2.5B) and Titan Temple (7B) are where the biggest gaps sit and where a multiplier would matter most.
The maximum speed multiplier is also not documented yet.
Speed tips from the wiki
- Train before attempting a new zone, not after arriving.
- Plan your route back before stealing, because later guardians are much stronger.
- Bigger eggs pay more but are heavier. If a guardian is catching you, take a smaller egg.
